i dont like digital photography. i hate it when someone just picks up a digital camera and takes a picture of a swing set, turns it black and white and calls it "lonelyness" like seriously, come on! that isnt photography, and you are not photographer. i mean i dont consider myself a photographer by any means, its just a hobby/small passion of mine. i love manual photoraphy because it takes some competence to do. you have to know how to load the film onto the camera, set the iso, check the light meter settings, and set the aperture and shutter speed before you actually take the picture. then you develop the film (which is an adventure all in itsself), go into the darkroom, make a contact sheet, make test strips, make enlargements, double exposures, whatever. i love being in the darkroom, it is a quiet and dim place filled with just the sounds of the constantly running water of the final water bath and sound of the electric current going through the enlarger. the movements are methodical and brainless, but the trial and error can be extremely frustrating. in the end, though, you can say "i made this, all of it". anyways, my original point was that basically, digital cameras diminish all of those steps previously mentioned and in turn diminish the personal connection one has with their art.
manual cameras are a dying breed.
i think digital is a good way to go if youre documenting something, like a concert or a ceremony.
