I went in to Barnes and Noble Wednesday evening to kill some time after dance and decided to read a chapter or two of Twilight. A few of my friends had gushed about it in the past, saying that it was about vampires, but "not like you would think." A girl in my dance class was reading the recently released Breaking Dawn during a break and several others enthused about the series...so it was on my mind when I walked into the bookstore and went directly to the display I had seen days before. Snatching the first in the series, I went upstairs to investigate the cushy chair availability. I opened the book and immediately fell in love with the main character Bella. She was likable, relatable. I was surprised at how so well written it was. I'm not quite sure what happened between the time I opened the front cover to the time I had to leave, but I knew I needed to continue reading this book as soon as possible. Put off by the price of the hardcover version I placed it back on the display and proceeded to the YMCA where my brother attended Taekwondo. With the price of gas, scalding weather, and tangible boredom in the back of our minds me and my mom went to a nearby h-e-b to yet again kill some time. I went straight to the magazine section, searching through the displays of cheap literature...there in h-e-b was also a small Twilight series display, but it lacked the first book that I was reading a mere thirty minutes earlier. I was a bit distraught, but eventually found a paperback version camouflaged against nameless novels. I snatched it up, the only one left, and bought it for a mere nine dollars. I showed it to Dustin when we picked him up and he told me I was going to turn into "a goth girl and wear lots of black eyeliner." I devoured the book in three days, mainly because of the fact that I was in dance everyday from nine to five. I finished it and hit the interweb to investigate the movie that would be coming out in December. Wikipedia was of course my first stop, the the movie's website, then to Rolling Stone's, then finally to Myspace to chit chat with friends about the book, those who I had previously dismissed....all I can say is that it took me completely by surprise, I had no idea that I would be so head over heels for a book.
